SCHLEGGE, Alfred 1923 Königsberg - 2015 Detmold Complete Figural Amber Chess Set. The opposing transparent and opaque sides handcarved as Napoleon Bonaparte and the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm III. It was made of Baltic Amber by the famous amber carver Alfred Schlegge from Königsberg. He was also involved in the carvings of the original Amber Room in the Eremitage in Saint Petersburg. Christies and Sothebys had already auctioned individual chess pieces of amber from Alfred Schlegge in the past. This is a complete chess set with all details entirely intact. It was the masterpiece kept by the famous carver for himself. Enclosed is also a handdrawing of the design of the individual chess pieces. Germany, mid to end of 20th century AD. Es handelt sich bei diesem Schachspiel um das Meisterstück von Alfred Schlegge, der dieses ein Leben lang in seinem persönlichen Besitz aufbewahrt hat. Jede der Figuren mit individuellen Zügen, es liegt auch ein handgezeichneter Entwurf für die einzelnen Komponenten des Spieles bei.
