Beautiful antique wooden pay table with its original wood and finish. Pay tables or paying tables were initially used by tax collectors and later in time by money exchangers. It is said that the Italian name for this kind of table (banco) is the origin of the word bank and sometimes when debts where not paid these table where broken. Banco rotto Italian for broken table is assumed to be the origin for the Dutch word 'bankroet' and the English word 'bankruptcy'. The table is in good condition overall with nice wear showing it's history. Height: 107 cm. Width: 84 cm. Depth: 82 cm. Condition: Good. Location: The Netherlands, Tilburg.
